What is the Status of Abortion in America?
As you may know, Albany UU formed a partnership with Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood (UHPP) following the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Albany UU has donated 100 kits containing comfort and care items for women having abortions at UHPP and has financially supported UHPP’s own efforts to create 100 additional kits. In addition, as is our congregation’s long time tradition, half of the plate money collected at the Christmas eve service was donated to this organization.
On Friday, February 10 (snow date 2/17), Madeline Reilly, the Public Affairs Manager from Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, will discuss the current state of abortion access in the United States. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landscape of abortion access in the United States has shifted drastically. Madeline will provide a broad overview of some of these major changes, as well as how they do (or do not) impact New Yorkers today. Following Madeline’s presentation, there will be a screening of the 2022 documentary “The Janes.” This film tells the true story of a group of Chicago women who created a network which provided abortions to upwards of 11,000 women in pre-Roe America.
Please plan to join us for a Thai dinner in Channing Hall at 5:30 PM, followed by this important presentation at 6:30 pm and the film in Community Hall.
To ensure that we have enough food for all attendees and that we can notify you if the event is postponed due to inclement weather, please RSVP by February 5th to Sandy Stone via email (dsalbany@nycap.rr.com) or by phone (518.489.8293.) If you leave a voicemail, please include your email address. Thank you!
