First Unitarian Universalist Society of Syracuse is thrilled to be hosting the fourth annual Building Beloved Community Beyond the Binary conference!
This year, the conference will be held on Saturday, February 8. We are excited to have as our keynote speaker Dr. Robyn Henderson-Espinoza who is a Transqueer Latinx activist scholar. Their dynamic and inspiring presentations explore the Intersections of queer justice and anti-racism, dismantling white supremacy and displacing whiteness, gender justice as human rights work, and bridging differences within our communities, campuses and churches.
In addition to the keynote, we will be offering many workshops. Some of them are intended for folks who want to be good allies, and some are designed especially for folks who are trans. These include: Trans 101, Parenting Trans Kids a Panel, Deconstructing Cis-ness, “Loving the Hell out of the World” a De-escalation Workshop, Care and Trauma: Finding Healing In the Storm, Promising Practices for Supporting Your Child through Transition, Trans Non Binary Spirituality group, Trans 12 step meeting, Fireside chat with Robyn- this is a closed space for trans and non-binary people for an open-ended conversation, Transitioning through Time: A brief history of transgenders and other gender non-conformity, Deconstructing Whiteness: Questions for White People to Ask.
Please see our registration link for the complete list of planned workshops!
We are also trying to raise extra funds to underwrite the cost of the event in order to keep registration prices as low as possible and to offer free tickets to youth and folks who just can’t afford the registrations fee. With your help, we hope to provide a welcoming space for over 125 people to gather this year.
We do hope you will be able to support the conference again this year, whether through a donation to our crowdfunding campaign and/or joining us in-person at the conference. We have until February 8 to raise $3,000, which will allow us to bring Robyn Henderson-Espinoza and other quality presenters, provide a sliding scale registration with FREE tickets for youth, and offer FREE childcare. We are running our own crowdfunding campaign this year which means we relying on you and our other supporters to spread the word. There is no crowdfunding without a crowd!
