Freedom to Boycott Rally on Governor’s Day at the Great New York State Fair

August 25, 2016 | 11:00am

Boycott is a time-honored tool of communities across the globe and, according to the US Supreme Court, a protected form a political free speech. Yet New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is taking draconian measures to punish those engaging in the nonviolent international movement of boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement (BDS) for Palestinian human rights.

On June 5, the Governor issued an Executive Order that will create a “blacklist” of individuals and organizations who support the BDS movement with the intention of cutting financial resources to those whose political position he disagrees with. This attack on our political free speech harks back to the McCarthy-era. We call on Governor Cuomo to rescind his blatantly unconstitutional executive order immediately.

Join New Yorkers from across the state on Thurs. August 25 at Governor’s Day at the Great New York State Fair to affirm our Freedom to Boycott! We expect the Governor to attend the opening of the Fair, but don’t know what time he will be there. Tens of thousands of people attend opening day at the Fair, as does the statewide media.  In addition to speaking out for our freedom to boycott, this is also an opportunity to reach thousands with our messages in support of Palestinian human rights.

Organize a caravan of cars from the Capital Region, leaving at 8:00 am. from the Albany/Schenectady area. For more information about the rally and transportation, please contact Alice Brody at Abrody07@verizon.net or call 518-573-9903.
