September 8, 2019 | 5:30 PM
Join the Walker Book Group for the first meeting of the church year on Sunday, September 8 at 5:30 pm in Channing Hall. We will begin with a potluck supper followed by a lively book discussion. Newcomers are always welcome.
Bring a dish to share and a small contribution to cover beverages. Be responsible for cleanup if using Albany UU’s kitchen or be green and bring your own dishes and flatware.
We will discuss The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. The novel, beginning in 1985 Chicago, is a chronicle of the AIDs epidemic and its long-term effect on sufferers, their families and friends. Through intertwining stories, it describes how the AIDS crisis affects the lives of Yale, an art gallery development director, and Fiona, his friend and the sister of an AIDs victim. A National Book Award finalist, it has been described as engrossing and compelling. We hope you will join us for this discussion.
We meet on the second Sunday of each month from September through June. In October, we will discuss Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. In November, we will discuss A Woman Is No Man: A Novel by Etaf Rum and in December, A Friend by Sigrid Nunez.
