September 13, 2020 | 6:30 PM
Join the Walker Book Group on Sunday, September 13 at 6:30 pm. This will be our first fall meeting. We will continue using Zoom in place of our usual potluck supper and discussion in Channing. Our Zoom meetings have resulted in lively discussions. Newcomers are always welcome.
We will discuss Warlight by Michael Ondaatje, author of The English Patient. This novel is set in post-World-War-II London. Two teenagers, Nathaniel and Rachel, are left alone under the care of a mysterious figure named the Moth, while their parents spend a year in Singapore. The story, told from the perspective of an older Nathaniel, involves a set of characters, including their mother Rose, with a shared history of unspecified service during the war. The NPR reviewer noted that Warlight’s concern is with the wages and repercussions of war.
Until the church building opens for meetings, we will continue meeting via Zoom on the second Sunday of each month at 6:30 pm. Please note the change in time. We have selected a novel to read and discuss in October, The Dutch House: A Novel by Ann Patchett. We are looking for suggestions for November and December.
