Walker Book Group

Join the Walker Book Group on Sunday, April 11 at 6:30 pm. If you would like time for additional socialization, please sign on to the Zoom link at 6:15. As long as the church building is closed, we will meet using Zoom instead of holding our usual potluck supper and discussion in Channing. Our Zoom meetings have resulted in lively discussions. Newcomers are always welcome.

In April, we will discuss The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett.  Chosen as one of the 10 best books of 2020 by the New York Times, this novel follows the lives of identical twin sisters. The sisters, whose lives diverge as adults, grew up in a small Black southern community.  One returns to their birth community; the other marries a white man and passes as white.  The story told through these women and their daughters explores the effect of the past on our present decisions and expectations, as well as issues of caste and class.

In May, we will discuss the classic novel, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The June book is Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Refugees, a collection of short stories.
