Walker Book Group

May 9, 2021 | 6:30 PM

Join the Walker Book Group on Sunday, May 9 at 6:30 pm. If you would like time for additional socialization, please sign on to the Zoom link at 6:15. As long as the church building is closed, we will meet using Zoom instead of holding our usual potluck supper and discussion in Channing. Our Zoom meetings have resulted in lively discussions. Newcomers are always welcome.

In May, we will discuss the classic novel, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The distinguished writer’s first novel, set in 1941, tells the story of a young Black girl, who, being ridiculed for her black skin, desires blue eyes, a symbol of “whiteness.”  The book’s controversial topics include racism, incest, and child molestation.

Directions for joining the meeting will also be placed in the Daily Reminders.

The June book is Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Refugees, a collection of short stories.  In May, we will select a book to read over the summer months and discuss at our September meeting.
