Join the Walker Book Group via Zoom on Sunday, January 9 at 6:30 pm. If you would like more time for socialization, please sign on to the Zoom link at 6:15. We will continue meeting via Zoom until the number of Covid infections in Albany County decreases substantially. Newcomers are always welcome.
At our January meeting, we will discuss Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. This historical novel follows the lives of the descendants of two half-sisters, born in the mid-18th century in what is now Ghana. Effia is married to the British governor of Cape Coast Castle and lives in luxury high above the dungeons in which Esi, her half-sister, is held. Esi is being held captive waiting for a slave ship to take her to America. In successive chapters the novel follows six generations of their descendants in Africa and America. Isabel Wilkerson describes Gyasi’s debut novel as hypnotic and its author as a “stirringly gifted young writer.”
In February, we will discuss Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun. We will pick a book for March at our January meeting. If you have suggestions, please send them to Martha at the email address listed below.
