Walker Book Group

April 10, 2022 | 6:30 PM

Join the Walker Book Group via Zoom on Sunday, April 10 at 6:30 pm. If you would like more time for socialization, please sign on to the Zoom link at 6:15. When church policy allows groups to remove their masks to eat, we will consider resuming our traditional potluck suppers and in-person meetings, possibly with a zoom option. We will continue meeting via Zoom until then. Newcomers are always welcome.

In April, we will discuss Deacon King Kong by James McBride. This comedic novel takes place in a fictionalized version of the New York City project where McBride grew up in the 60’s.  It centers around a befuddled 71-year-old church deacon who shoots a young drug dealer in front of a crowd of people, but then can’t remember the shooting. The novel explores the reasons for the shooting and its consequences for a large group of interconnected people—drug dealers, crime family members, project residents, and church members.

We have selected the classic novel Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather to discuss in May. If you have suggestions for future reads, please send them to Martha at the email address listed below.
