Walker Book Group

Join the Walker Book Group on Sunday, December 11 at 5:30 pm for an in-person meeting in Channing Hall. If you are not comfortable attending in-person, join the book discussion via Zoom at 6:30.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

The in-person meeting will begin with a potluck supper at 5:30. Those not meeting in-person can join the book discussion via Zoom at 6:30.

At our December meeting, we will discuss Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout.

This novel is the second in a sequence of three that began with My Name is Lucy Barton. Since the first novel, Lucy has divorced her first husband, William Gerhardt, become a successful writer, remarried, and been widowed. In the novel, Lucy reflects on her marriage to William and her relationship with his mother, Catherine Cole.  According to the New York Times review, “Marriage is Strout’s subject in “Oh William!” and she writes about it with brilliance….”

We select books in advance to allow participants time to secure and read them. Selected books are available in the library. The group has selected two additional books for discussion.  In January, we will discuss French Braid by Anne Tyler, and in February, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
