Please join us for our Sunday service. We have one service each week: at 10:00 a.m. with half an hour of socializing during Coffee Hour. During the service, there are hymns, readings and a sermon. The choir may perform and the children are with us for a few minutes before they go to their Religious Education classes. Most weeks, there is also a Forum following the service, an opportunity to learn about a current social issue and participate in discussion with other members of the congregation.
Every Sunday during Coffee Hour, representatives of the Membership Committee and the Board of Trustees stand by the Information Table in the lobby or Channing Hall (just outside the entrance to the sanctuary) to greet newcomers, answer questions, and even give tours. We have a wide array of pamphlets and other reading material at the Info Table and you can fill out a card requesting to receive our Windows newsletter, meet with the minister, or be invited to a newcomers’ gathering.
While visitors and guests are always welcome at our many programs and activities, you may find that after your first few visits, you want to learn more about our congregation and Unitarian Universalism. Once every other month on a Saturday morning, the Membership Committee offers an introduction to Unitarian Universalism and to FUUSA called “Getting to Know UU.” The session is open to anyone who’s interested and includes an exploration of our own religious journeys, an overview of Unitarian Universalist history and principles, discussion of ways to get involved in FUUSA, a description of what it means to be a member of the congregation and how to become one. Childcare is provided. A light meal and a tour of the building round out the day.
In addition to stopping by the Information Table, you can reach the Membership Committee through the FUUSA office, (518) 463-7135.
Getting Involved – Next Steps
In addition to coming frequently to Sunday services, we encourage you to get involved in the life of the congregation. You can sign up for an Adult Education class or for Small Group Ministry. There are many social events at FUUSA that will give you a chance to meet members of the congregation in a relaxed, fun setting – musical performances, games nights, potluck suppers, bridge games, book clubs . . . You’ll find calendars and announcements of these events in Windows and in the Sunday morning Order of Service.
Another easy step is to be a Sunday morning volunteer: sign up to be an usher or to host coffee hour. The job instructions are spelled out in detail, and if you like, you can pair up with an experienced member for your first few times.
Yet another way to get involved, according to your own preferences, is to join a committee. There are literally dozens to choose from, addressing every aspect of congregational life from child and adult religious education to social responsibilities in the larger community. A list of the current active committees can be found here. If you are interested in learning more about these committees, please contact the office at 463-7135 and we will have a committee chair follow up with you.
