Music

An excellent music program, representing music of many styles from many different cultures, both sacred and secular, including folk and world music, enriches our Sunday services.

Our volunteer choir, under the leadership of Music Director Matt Edwards, participates in most 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship services. When the choir is not singing, there are guest performers who represent many musical styles.

The choir focuses on challenging pieces including a cappella repertoire, multi-cultural songs, selections from the new hymnal supplement and pieces that are just plain fun. Membership in the choir is open to all levels of musical and singing skill. The only real requirement for joining choir is an enthusiastic love of music and regular attendance at rehearsals. The ability to “carry a tune” does help. Rehearsals are on most Wednesdays from September to December and from February to June at 7:15 p.m. in Emerson Hall. If you are interested in joining, talk with Matt on Sunday or visit a Wednesday rehearsal. It is a good idea to check with the church office, (518) 463-7135, or send an email to the church administrator first to be sure the choir is rehearsing that evening.

In addition to serving as choir director, Matt enriches the musical experience at FUUSA as pianist and organist. Since 2006, he has been the musical director and accompanist for the Annual Dinner skit. Also at the Annual Dinner, Matt has performed with a combo that provided music for after-dinner dancing. During the summer of 2006, our Music Director studied with clinicians from the Excellence in Choral Music Foundation and finished his Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
